OSC Announces Canada’s First Hackathon by a Securities Regulator

For Immediate Release OSC

TORONTO – The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) today announced RegHackTO, the first hackathon by a securities regulator in Canada. RegHackTO (www.reghackto.ca) will bring together Canadian innovators, strategists and developers to collaborate on possible solutions to shared challenges in the regulatory environment.

The event follows the OSC’s establishment of OSC LaunchPad (www.osclaunchpad.ca), which engages with fintech businesses, provides the opportunity for support in navigating the requirements, and strives to keep regulation in step with digital innovation.

RegHackTO will take place from Friday, November 25 at 5:00 p.m. eastern time through Sunday, November 27 at 3:00 p.m. eastern time at the offices of Bitmaker located at 220 King Street West, Toronto, Ontario.

Individuals or teams of up to six members can participate in RegHackTO. To register, those interested in participating should send an email with full contact details to [email protected]. Participants are encouraged to register as soon as possible as space is limited.

Submissions will be judged by a panel including Maureen Jensen, Chair and CEO of the OSC, Joseph Lubin, Founder of ConsenSys and Ethereum, and other industry experts.

Additional details including the RegHackTO agenda and rules are available on the OSC’s website at www.reghackto.ca.

For further updates on the event, participants are also encouraged to follow #RegHackTO on Twitter.

The mandate of the OSC is to provide protection to investors from unfair, improper or fraudulent practices and to foster fair and efficient capital markets and confidence in the capital markets. Investors are urged to check the registration of any persons or company offering an investment opportunity and to review the OSC investor materials available at www.osc.ca
