OSC Announces New Commissioner Appointments
TORONTO – Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) Chair and CEO Maureen Jensen announced today the following appointments to the OSC. The Commissioners will each serve a two-year term effective November 16, 2016.
- Philip Anisman, BA, LLB, LLM, JSD has almost 50 years of experience teaching and practising securities and corporate law. A former professor of law and senior civil servant, and a sole practitioner since 1987, Dr. Anisman has appeared before all levels of courts and tribunals in Canada, and has written extensively on corporate, securities and administrative law.
- Frances Kordyback, BMath has more than 30 years of experience in investment banking, venture capital and private equity in Canadian and international capital markets. She was most recently a managing director at Northwater Capital Management Inc., with firm-wide responsibilities and a focus on venture investing.
“We welcome the leadership and extensive experience that Philip and Frances bring to the OSC,” said Chair Jensen. “Their expertise will be an asset to us in our commitment to provide effective regulation and oversight of Ontario's capital markets.”
The Commission has two related but independent roles. It serves as the Board of Directors of the OSC and performs a regulatory function, which includes making rules and policies and adjudicating administrative proceedings.
The mandate of the OSC is to provide protection to investors from unfair, improper or fraudulent practices and to foster fair and efficient capital markets and confidence in the capital markets.
